Rumford Club – December Dinner: Lithium and battery economy in geopolitical context
Originally formed in 1947 to address mainly technical topics around air movement such as air conditioning. The Rumford club has developed a broader view of potential subjects within the built environment and engineering services sector. The club provides an opportunity for professionals from an array of fields to meet and debate the issues of the past, present and future.
The Rumford club is a social dining and debate club with regular dinner meetings which are typically held in London. Each dinner has a keynote speaker and topic of debate.
It is a private members club attracting consultants, contractors, manufacturers, educators and researchers and many more across the sectors. The club aims to be inclusive rather than exclusive and they regularly welcome dinner guests. There are no age restrictions. However, they do ask that members are expected to have sufficient understanding and experience within the industry and contribute actively to the dinners, reputation and wellbeing of the club.
The Rumford Club’s third dinner of the season will be held in the David Lloyd George room at the National Liberal Club in London on Thursday 2nd December 2021.
This month’s guest speaker is Lukasz Bednarski, Author of ‘Lithium: The Global Race for Battery Dominance and the New Energy Revolution’.
Lukasz Bednarski
Lukasz is a battery raw materials analyst and author of the recent book Lithium: The Global Race for Battery Dominance and the New Energy Revolution.
Prior to this, he was a lecturer at the Commodities Academy, editor in chief of Lithium Today and a commodities trader for several trading companies.
Lukasz has a degree in Economics & Business Administration and looks at the impact of geopolitical disruptions on the supply chains under the PhD programme at University of Sussex.
About the topic
Lukasz will present on topics discussed in his book, providing a high level introduction to the functioning of battery economy.
Taking us on a journey along the battery supply chain from mines, where battery raw materials are extracted, to high-tech battery plants; discussing the implications of battery revolution for geopolitics and economy at large.
He will also look at the mining of battery raw materials and battery production in the context of sustainability.
The presentation will close with the investigation of future trends and new exciting innovations in the battery industry.
